[edit] History

Throughout its history, Kadaras had historically been controlled by regional powers of varying make-up and extent. Sometimes, these splits have been along racial lines, with dwarven powers along the western coast, orcs and men in the north-west, men and halflings in the east, men and gnomes in Bur, and several different tribes of men in the south. However, there have been alliances and schisms amongst these groups at various times as well, and the large swathes of largely uninhabitable land populated primarily by powerful beasts has meant that for a long time, no one power reigned over a large section of Kadaras for more than a single leader's lifetime (if that).

Eventually, the men of Kassr, with superior arms and organization, grew their influence beyond their borders. This expansion eventually led to the unified Kingdom of Kadaras in the year BGW 103, unifying all but the orcs, who were pushed back into the mountains and badlands. The goverment sat in Kadaras, and for a some time, things flourished. During this time, the port of Serriyam was greatly expanded and the trading villages Laneet, Ossiyam, and Tekr were recognized and given protection as members of the kingdom.

The young kingdom's sights were set even farther than their own shores, and before long, they were involved in the Great War.

On 27 February, 11, the war was lost when the king was killed in battle. Shortly after, the military fell apart, and the regions were left in the hands of local war-lords, many of whom were surviving heroes returned from the war. The country returned to tribalism and in-fighting.

[edit] Present-day politics

The northern city-state of Morche, led by Horace Ungerholt, has recently moved on the offensive, using the trading post of Laneet as a striking point to take the ungoverned city-state of Serriyam.

Meanwhile, the eastern city-state of Kassr, under the leadership of Robert Thune, has recently become extremely successful in trade and has controlled Bur for some time. Having recently lost a trade caravan near Morche, tensions between Thune and Ungerholt have risen, as it appears that the attack was poorly orchestrated to make it appear as though the caravan had been slaughtered by marauding Orcs. In response to Ungerholt's attempt to expand into Serriyam, Thune gathered his forces in Bur and met the Morche army in Serriyam.
