Omil
From Enlil
Omil, a necromancer from Serriyam, came to power when his master, an older, wiser, and more powerful warlord, died. From then on, he held a tight grip on Serriyam from his tower in a compound outside the city. Being himself reclusive, he held power via orcs and human soldiers who were paid well for their work, and kept in line via fear of his horrible retribution.
Omil's penchant for isolation was driven largely by his paranoia. This paranoia in fact served him well, as up until the Serryic Knights met up with the party, they had no way to easilly identify him.
[edit] Interactions with the Party
| | The following information comes from Solomon Knotbeard. |
| Long before the adventuring began, Omil was already causing problems for the people of Serriyam, and specifically, Solomon. These are some of his thoughts on the tyrant. |
Omil's lust for power and opposition to arcane study by the masses led him to shut down my library and confiscate its many valuable tomes, both magical and mundane (though esoteric). Although I had all the proper licenses for magical practice, Omil saw my library as a threat to his own power and gave the order to revoke my license. Greedily wishing to ensure that my valuable texts and equipment not fall into his enemies' hands, Omil had the library raided in order to capture everything there deemed important. I made it out with a cloak, my spellbook, and a few of my favorite volumes, but not much else. Equipped only with these items and seeking to right this wrong, I turned to the Serryic Knights to begin work to end Omil's reign and make Serriyam safe again for Urok Bletter's vision: unimpeded scholarly pursuits.
Based on what I've heard, Omil was constantly worried that one of the neighboring warlords would invade. Although not the largest city, Serriyam is at least valuable for its port. Because of this paranoia, Omil began seeking an artifact in the northern continent to increase his power. The Serryic Knights saw this attempt by Omil to further tighten his grasp on Serriyam as a serious threat to our goals, not to mention our well-being, and so we dispatched a party to follow him and prevent his return at all costs. Darius and I were members of that party. Our objective was to ensure Omil's defeat, leaving a window for the Knights to organize a more focused progressive movement within Serriyam and hopefully create a democratic governing body before nearby rulers would sense the power vacuum and move in.
| End of Solomon's account. |
The details aren't yet clear, but it seems Omil sought after the Daarek Orb in the Darklingscourse mines. He brought with him or hired orcs and took the orb from the mines mere days before the party arrived there. They followed him into the hills, where they were captured by an orc patrol. They were brought to the orc encampment where, in an odd act of personal intervention, Omil interrogated them, having seemingly mistaken their motives for something they were not. The party was rescued shortly thereafter, by dwarves from Tanikwight as well as Livia and Radovan. Omil escaped with several orcs.
The Serryic Knights forged on to Westop from here, to wait for him at the port, leaving Solomon with the party to follow behind him in an attempt to slow or capture him along the way.
After tracking Omil through Jarrowby, they finally met up with him in Bulgercross. After Gron's minions attacked the caravan he was on, Omil headed straight to Gron's lair, where they confronted one another, possibly leaving Gron dead. Alexander Poe, by way of Aaron, had sent a message from Jarrowby to a man by the name of Grimsby in Bulgercross, who organized a search party along the road in the woods. Omil took one of them, a lumberjack by the name of John Ashwood, captive (or more likely, bribed him), and continued through the forest. The party caught up with them on their journey, whereupon Beatrix knocked Mr. Ashwood out with a single swing of her fist. They then proceeded to do battle with a multitude of mirror images of a man they suspected to be Omil in disguise, who blinded Liesl in the process. Before any of them could land the killing blow, however, he held an orb in his hand, pointed a wand at it, and told them that they would never take the Daarek Orb.
When the party came to, they found themselves washed up on The Shores, fully healed, and Liesl with her sight back.
Omil is presumed to be dead.
