[edit] The party hits the road

After killing a large portion of the guard in the manor at Laneet, the party made for their meeting point with Jacob Applebottom, about 3 and a half hours before he was expecting them. They were accompanied by Sonya and her silent companion.

After a little bit of shuffling, Sonya and her companion headed off to Laneet to help people leave before the orcs — who will presumably soon become enraged when the Mayor is unable to make his payments to the Orcs — come to raid the encampment. Jacob took the two mules and went back to Laneet to monitor what happened, and the party, laden with a decent amount of feed and spells to generate water, rode hard off into the desert.

[edit] Travel Day #1

After spending a night disturbed only by a small shrewish creature rustling about in the bushes, (Which Aaron and Laucian named "Vinnie") the party continued on toward Serriyam, a trip of around 160 miles. Midway through the day, the party encountered a group of travellers on foot, clad in rags to protect them from the sun. Upon approach, however, the travellers turned out to be orcs, and the two groups did battle.

The orcs were defeated and the party set out again.

Hoobler provided sandwiches and Conner brought (great) beers.

The party divided the money from the Laneet heist. Some of the gold pieces had to be split into whaqnokits (pronounced whack-knock-its). Additional funds in the amount of 1 pp and 5 gp were given to Liesl to be tithed at the earliest opportunity. Solomon and Aaron also appraised the pearls and jewels in the one chest that Laucian took.

The party was then ambushed by a group of four gnolls and a pair of the dreaded hyenas. The party vanquished them and returned to the trail--by nightfall, they were approximately halfway to Serriyam.

Dinner was Boli Pizza; beers were provided by Kate.

In this session the group continued along the road to Serriyam, and around 25 miles outside of the city started to notice scorched land and settlements. About 20 miles outside of town, the group came across the Wayward Fox Inn, which Solomon recognized as belonging to Hans Vardamin. The place had been overrun, ransacked, and Vardaman was strung up on the front door with a longsword in him. His journal revealed that he had made a stand against the marauding orcs there, remarking that things were more stable when Omil was in charge. The group gave him a proper burial and spent the night on beds in the inn. The next day they made their way toward the city until they could see Serriyam, the ocean, and Omil's old tower on the horizon. The two gates to the town appear to be guarded, and Solomon knows that there was an old entrance on the East side of town near his library which had been sealed up.

Dinner was Pio-Pio. Beer was provided by Mr. Hoobler.

Having reached the city of Serriyam, the party paused to consider their options. The outer gates of the city appeared to be closed and well guarded by the besieging army, so the party snuck around the city to see if the hidden entrance Solomon remembered was still accessible. After some searching, Laucian was able to locate the entrance and the party made ready to enter.

Yarin was tasked with entering through the front gate with the horses and heavier supplies, while the party would take the back entranceway to the Academy of Arcane Arts.

The party moved through the tunnel slowly, negotiating traps and doors hidden by illusion. The passage appeared to dead-end in a room that was actually a pit with a few platforms, again with an illusion concealing the danger.

While exploring the bottom of the pit, Aaron tangled with some kind of slime creature. He fled up to a higher level and the party was able to destroy the slime. Undeterred, Liesl jumped from platform to platform and triggered a hidden stairway that led up!

Dinner was bahn mi brought by Hoobler and beers were bought by Ben via Conner.

After climbing the stairs, the squad discovered a large-ish room with a round rug in the center with a table atop it and, in turn, a candelabra atop the table. Upon approaching, Aaron discovered that the objects were animated. The team awkwardly attempted to fight the rug, table, and candelabra, but had a lot of trouble knowing how to do so.

Chinese was bought by Kate, and beers were provided by David.

The crew finally dispatched the renegade furniture, though Liesl was thoroughly squoze by the rug. With Aaron scouting ahead, they made their way through the underground hallways up to a door. This door led to what Solomon recognized to be the Academy of the Arcane Arts. The Academy itself was largely bare and deserted, and the group made its way up to ground level and out of the building, proceeding toward the headquarters of the Serryic Knights. Along the way, they spotted a member of the city police and a band of orcs, which took slight notice, but they did not appear to draw much concern and did not seem to be followed. Arriving at the warehouse in the agricultural district, Solomon administered the secret knock and they entered the secret headquarters, met by Darius. Darius explained the political landscape of Serriyam, the tenuous grasp that Horace Ungerholt has been able to maintain, and plans of the Knights to aid the ultimate arrival of Robert Thune. He explained that Serriyam proper has largely fallen under the control a number of gangs, with Ungerholt mainly keeping his forces in Omil's Tower and the city gates. He explained that The Hammers are the gang that is most closely aligned with the Serryic Knights and offers them protection. Darius also described the plan to bring down the two towers of the city's south gate in an attempt to make the arrival of Thune's troops easier in the city and to help destabilize the tenuous grasp Ungerholt has. He believes that bringing playboy and gang leader Thomas Bladelaw and his Bladelaw gang over to their side will aid them in mounting an armed resistance when the time comes and tasks the group with helping accomplish this before the planned destruction of the towers in a week's time. The group then met up with Yarin, who informed them of where their gear and horses were being stored.

Bahn Mi was bought by Nate, and beers were provided by Steve.
